Dear friends,
I am pleased to inform you that the 8° RIDEF are placed "under the label of the 50th anniversary of the Francophonie"
This is recognition and encouragement from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF)
Further to our previous exchanges, as of June 18, 2020, we received a letter from Mr.Jean-Marc Berthon, Director of Cabinet of the Secretary General of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo, officially informing us of the decision of the OIF to place the 8th International Meeting of Francophone Chess "under the label of 50 years of the Francophonie".

All information on the 8° RIDEF is available at

The "RIDEF" - Rencontres Internationales des Échecs Francophones - is our major event that takes place annually since 2013. It is becoming more and more important every year and has become an expected global event.
This is an opportunity for all our members to come together not only to participate in the competitions that award the various titles of Champion and Champion of La Francophonie, but also to share moments of conviviality conducive to developing North-South mutual aid.south between Francophones.
The first seven editions were held successively in Marrakech (Morocco), Beirut (Lebanon), Montreal (Canada-Quebec), Menton (France), Yasmine Hammamet (Tunisia), Tirana (Albania) and Paris (France).

This year, for the second time, Tunisia will organize this event, a partnership has been concluded with the tour operator Go-makkah in order to offer excellent conditions of play and accommodation to participants and accompanists in Djerba,
On the sidelines of the main classic tournament, many activities are scheduled including a FIDE seminar for coaches, the blitz championship, a day of excursions, the New Year’s dinner and festivities and the traditional closing gala.

Let us not forget that since 1 July 2017, following the decision taken at the FIDE Congress in Baku – Azerbaijan in 2016, the RIDEF obtained the same status as the Commonwealth or Arab League championships, which implies that titles and standards are awarded directly to the former. This made it possible in 2019 in Paris to Milanto Harifidy Ralison to offer his 2nd title of International Master to Madagascar.

I am convinced that the health problems we are currently facing and the pandemic that we are suffering will only be bad memories when we welcome you to Djerba la Douce, sometimes also known as the Île des Rêves"
I hope to see more of you there than in previous editions so that we can all celebrate the year 2021 with joy and good humour!
