Levon Aronian vs Magnus Carlsen | 2017 Altibox Norway Chess Tournament

It’s Armenia’s long time #1, Levon Aronian, versus the current World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen in a Round 4 game from the 2017 Altibox Norway Chess Tournament. This game was played on June 10th, and many fans were quick to peg it a brilliancy. Would Aronian, playing as white, or Carlsen, playing as black, be the hammer in this chess masterpiece? What makes this game stand out from the rest?

  1. Did Magnus play the london opening in this game??

  2. Your analysis videos are better than the other yt channels out there

  3. I wish these chess videos would just show the damn game and enough with the shit commentary like they know what they are doing

  4. Hi Jerry. I've learned a lot of chess from you!

  5. What a game. This game was so satisfying to watch. Thanks Jerry!

  6. Thank you for doing analysis of this tournament like I suggested! I would love to see more. Your analysis is WAY more enjoyable than other peoples. I don't care if other people are commenting that you missed some lines or w/e the hell they are saying, your analysis is perfect and 10x more digestible than others for 99.9% of chess players.

  7. wow. nice game. Its almost as if its unreal. like its been made up or something. thats how good it is

  8. "Look at these two clowns here"

I swear to god I wouldn't be half as into chess if it wasn't for Jerry

  9. This guy is really funny and has a soothing voice too

  10. 2:10 17 minutes for a freaking reply? I guess it was a good chess move, then. The opponent was stunned for a solid 17 minutes, running out his clock. Sheesh.

  11. This bishop is suffering from " Tall pawn syndrome "
Jerry, you are EPIC ! 😀

  12. I think the B-c2 move was possibly in preparation for a possible Q-d3, with a future threat to h7.

  13. Bc2 isn’t that great but his reasoning may have involved the strength of qd3 as a later move. That diagonal is deadly in QG lines. Though, usually we would conveniently be able to remove the knight on f6

  14. My first instinct was that bishop c2 was protecting the b3 pawn, and that is exactly what he ended up using it for with the exchange.

  15. I'm going to say Bishop to C2 was intended to prepare for the queen trap

  16. Wow, really astonishing game. Aronian is one of my all time favourites. He's not always consistent, but when he's in top form, he's unstoppable!

  17. ChessNetwork if you really wanna see the magic, just play against Levon Aronian

  18. I understand this is only the norway chess tournament, but if someone beat carlsen why is he still seen as the worlds best player?

  19. About this tenth move by white… This bishob on c2 allows the treat to (almost)trap the queen afterward; (4:04) the knight retreats and both bishops control all the squares available to the the queen. Had the bishop stayed on d3; it coudn't have controlled the a1 square from c4 without being eaten by the pawn on d5! Maybe I missed something crucial but Aronian seemed to have prepared this line very well; seeying how Carlsen was thrown away by this before-hand-mentionned move… Anyway what a great game! Great review also! As alsways Jerry rules it all!

  20. After 10. Bc2, White need not worry any longer about the attack that would otherwise ensue were Black to play a timely … dxc4, or … e5, e4. I see it as a prophylactic move.

  21. The move mightve been played to in some cases make a Queen bishop battery to strike at h7

  22. I think bishop to C2 was simply a setup for the queen trap which followed.

  23. please use a computer to analyse your analysis is not always on pint in many videos

  24. So now you know what to do to beat anybody…… you gotta eat fish that day XD

  25. “She is way out of bounce. I don’t know what tank we’d call that” 😂

  26. so sad Aronian didn't make it to the world championship

  27. The only thing I like better than watching Carlsen play, is to watch him get crushed. He is fantastic player, but when he loses, you know it's going to be amazing.

  28. I'm so you're the way you are Jerry. You just make learning about chess just that much more enjoyable.

  29. 2:26 wait he spent 17 minutes on the reply? did i hear that right?

  30. I believe Levon had this opening prepared with stockfish (Or some other engine) and that bishop move was setting up those sacrifices. Though maybe he had this idea prepped himself in advance.

  31. Jerry , moving bishop to C2 is to guard a4, for potentialy trapping the queen, after b3 move to b4..that is my best guess, and you actually said it later

  32. I think my favorite Jerry-ism is referring to chess pieces as "clowns".

  33. Now the commentary is more addective then chess 🤣

  34. This is just beautiful and I am a Magnus fan.

  35. what did aronian eat today ?
    tacos.. 😂

  36. Seems that Aronian is simply a nightmare to Calsern.
