The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.

Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

  1. there is a chinese flag for ding but no russian flag for ian… why?

  2. To be honest, I feel cheated, simply Magnus or even Hikaru… these 2 nah

  3. Space station Mir was totally fake. So there's that.

  4. Where is Medo? Why is he missing the WCC?

  5. Feel free to pause the video at anytime to find an equal position

  6. If anyone wants to have a laugh, watch the post game conference. Almost no questions about the game, it was awkward and cringe.

Question for Ding: You got early birthday surprise. What was it? Ding: Ammm, no? I don't have a birthday.

  7. I love that the very nice photos are making a return!

  8. The World Chess Championship will never be as fun as it used to be when one of the players was Magnus.

  9. [me opening with b4]
[me to my opponent] this is resigns

  10. i personaly very like both players.
But, its just ugh, when you think about so prestigous trophy as wcc going to china or ru*sia.
Its a shame. Not very interested in current wcc for this reason.

  11. Captures, captures – everything captures – so it's a draw☺

  12. Agad you always have the most delightful commentary. It's not over-hyped, you just let the beauty of chess speak for itself. Been subscribed for many years now and it's been wonderful to see your channel grow!

  13. Could you just go over the game first? All these different lines are confusing to me- I can’t remember what the game is …

  14. 4:32 agad shows the political correctness as the queen identifies as a king

  15. Another day, another disappointment in a chess game lacking all sort of top quality.

  16. I don't understand why Ding didn't just play the best moves.

He would literally win every time if he did.

  17. is anyone actually watching the WC knowing that it no longer represents the highest level of chess in the world? its just a random 1on1 tournament nowadays…

  18. Sorry just too many "what If's" I just can't follow what moves were really played, dial it back a little please…

  19. Ding is playing scared. He’s not playing to win he’s playing not to lose.

  20. Nepo in the lead to determine the second best player in the world

  21. So in Go they don't allow players to repeat the position. I don't think anyone likes all these WCC matches with draws. Hmmm, how could we stop the draws.

  22. Just a comment. I like the commentary, however there are so many alternate tangents explored that I lose track of the original game. The side – "what ifs" shouldn't be greater then the actual moves played.

  23. God I love this channel this might be the most non-toxic community in the history of YouTube

  24. When Anand beat Kasparov to take lead in their title match, Kasparov retaliated in the next game. That was Kasparov. This is Ding.

  25. Boring game. Boring world championship match.

  26. Not a game that could qualify as a WCC match . I don't know much about the GMs game but when I saw queens gambit declined I felt I ll have to see crazy lines but the irony is they stopped playing it when the game was actually getting spicy . Wish ding played that b5 move n made the game exciting . Nevertheless not a boring game by any means . Expecting blockbusters as we go forward .Comeon Ding . Rooting for u

  27. I’m feel a bit sorry for Nepo. Imagine you’re 6 years old and you have to learn how to spell Nepomniachtchi

  28. Shorter is better. Maybe I can finish this vid…

  29. What's up Agadmator? Is This W.C.C. going to be Boring or Non- intriguing or What? If You will. Ding doesn't seem to be imagitive or clever in His Chess Playing. If He's going to stop having Continual Draws, He's got to be more creative and daring on the C. Board. He can't be so eager to agree to draws or to keep finding Drawn Positions. I wish Magnus would have given Nepo a chance to prove Himself from the First Encounter of W.C.Champship when He dominated Nepo. I think Nepo would have been a more worthy Opponent this time around. And at least it would be more intriguing and Watch- Worthy then the Match- Up now. I think by now it's a foregone conclusion Who's gonna win this W.C.Champship Match, and it's surely is not Ding. Have a good one, ☮️ out. Freeman from the States The United States that is.

  30. Can you let us know the score at the start of each video. Love the videos
