The 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship is a 14-game match taking place in the St. Regis Astana Hotel in Astana, Kazakhstan on April 9-30 between Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 2022 Candidates Tournament. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen has chosen not to defend his title. The first player to reach 7.5 points wins, while a 7:7 tie will be decided by a playoff. The prize fund is €2 million, split 60:40, or 55:45 if it goes to a playoff. No draw offers are allowed until after move 40.
Each player has 120 minutes for 40 moves, then 60 minutes for the next 20, then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting only from move 61. A playoff will consist of four 25-minute games, with a 10-second increment from move 1. If still tied, up to two pairs of 5+3 games will be played. If tied again, single 3+2 games are played, with colours reversed each game, until one player wins.

+100. Great analysis…. 2 minor points: At 8:19 if Black takes QxPe4? then NxPc4, Qc6 / NxBb6, QxNb6 / de5 White wins a Pawn and has a 2-on-1 in queenside Pawns. And at 9:09 if QxPe4?? then Ne3-f5 wins the N on e7.
Love the new camera posture you decided to use!
After a long time, we are seeing humans playing WCC😂. Thanks Magnus 😊
The score I think it shows that the level of the games isn’t that high like it used to be. Less draws means the other side do less accurate moves.
That guy in the beginning is the real John Wick!
Hereby Nepo proves he is a solid second best player of this era. It would be something interesting if Carlsen will join the next candidates tournament.
Quote game is strong on this this channel for the WCC!
Somehow FEW useless lines being shown are less enjoyable than non wcc match. Please don't show. It takes out the flow!
how can Ian play if he's russian ?
At the very end, what if b4?
I really think FIDE should take away this world championship format, from now on the number 1 and 2 at the candidates tournament will get to play for the championship no one is defending.
Game 6 is supposed to be the best game of every championship. So let's wait and see
Nepo's knight at the end is one of the beautiful and strongest piece on the board.
Meanwhile magnus and fabio😂😂..with 12 draws
We've talked about how Hikaru is the fastest in speed chess but Nepo is the fastest in classical
I consider 32. Re2 and 36. Re4 the most difficult moves to find in this game. Especially 32. Re2: I would not have even just considered this as a candidate move over the board. I totally missed how this kills black's counterplay with b4.
The pattern is set. Nepo is the better player, but his occasional lapses will keep it interesting. It's in his hands.
New drinking game: Take a shot every time Antonio says "keeping the tension".
Damn, Ian missed an important line, and got lucky that it didn't quite work. If it had worked, we'd be calling Ding lucky. Chess is brutal.
The camera angle of Agadmator is quite nice!
I used ChatGPT to create a poem about chess and Medo. Pretty good. #suggestion A Poem of Chess and Medo's Charm
On the board, black and white align,
In strategic play, tactics refine.
A game of minds, a battle of wit,
Where pawns advance, and kings must fit.
Amidst the pieces, stands a pup,
Medo, the dog, all eyes lit up.
With wagging tail and playful bark,
He brings joy, a chessboard's spark.
He watches close, with keen insight,
A grandmaster's eye, shining bright.
As players ponder, moves they weigh,
Medo's presence, a welcome display.
In Agadmator's realm, he reigns,
A loyal companion, no chessboard refrains.
With curiosity and boundless zest,
He adds flair to the game, the very best.
Medo's charm, a chess lover's delight,
A furry muse, a gleeful sight.
In this game of kings, queens, and knights,
Medo adds joy, a chessboard's light.
So, let us play, with Medo's grace,
In Agadmator's kingdom, a special place.
Where chess and charm entwine with glee,
Medo, the dog, our chess referee!
I like Ding. But he plays for china..i never liked Nepo. Not ever.. he comes across as a not a good guy..i don't know why. Just a gut feeling. But, i like Nepo for the win.
Ding ignored/missed several opportunities to play for a draw with black. And deservedly lost.
Boring and no creativity even when with short highlights from agod.
Gold medal boxer
Ding could play 1.g4 to take Nepo out of his opening prep . . . . .
Imagine how strong magnus carlsen is 😂😂😂
At 18:44 video time, I believe move 40, why isn't Qf7 checkmate? Why take on Qa8? What am I missing?
Yes, but what is the MATCH SCORE? Please.
0:54 increase our VAST knowledge*
Really enjoy Nepo's style of play. In boxing terms he is such a knockout puncher. When he finds the opportunity he always swings and the result is almost always spectacular. In Ding's win he clearly swung and missed and now just went for it and it resulted in a win. Also makes a lot of sense that Rapport is Ding's second since he is also a high risk high reward player.
Nice new setup agad
And to think that people were unhappy because Magnus wasn't in. Isn't this more interesting than the previous several WC matches?
out of harm's way
Watching agamator’s videos might be my favorite thing about chess.

In a way I'm happy that Carlson decided not to play. These games are way more interesting for fans.
And I think it shows that Carlson is in a class of it's own
04:58 is't Ne7 losing a piece. Did I miss something?
I like this game because I can clearly see where the middle-game advantage emerged—black’s bishop didn’t belong on c5 and spent the whole game doing nothing staring at the f3 pawn. White was functionally up a piece and pushed accordingly.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM IF THERE HAS BEEN AS MANY DECISIVE GAMES IN THE FIRST 5 OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH SINCE SPASSKY – FISCHER? THIS IS REALLY ENTERTAINING! P.S. I WROTE THIS BEFORE ANTONIO MENTIONED IT, BUT HE ISN'T SURE EITHER; TOO LAZY TO GOOGLE; BUT I AM SURE THERE ARE SOME KIND KNOWLEDGABLE VIEWERS HERE THAT CAN EXPEND MY VAST KNOWLEDGE AS WELL 😉
what a game & matching analysis by Antonio !
I am rooting for Ding but Nepo is playing amazing
In last position, After queen to f8, if nepo plays, Bishop captures on G6, then where's the problem??? Queen will be guarding the pawns promotion square, this might be holding, after that queen captures G6* check, king goes back to H8, then rook captures a2, Queen captures C3, game continues…
The miniature looks like Nepo is slapping Ding
4:55 Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the bishop undefended after Ne7?
Not the same without Magnus
After sometime a game which I can discuss with my friends at the bar and the library
I think its the first time I've seen any other camera angle on this channel in so many years. I hope it's actually the first time as well (and I've not missed any video with this camera angle earlier).
