  1. Yes magnus carlsen wins, and I am breathing. What's new??πŸ˜‚

  2. I liked Magnus, but constant winning turns off -itβ€˜s time for someone to push him off his pedestal

  3. Congratulations Magnus. First time I follow the tour pretty much live. Thanks for the show.

  4. 45:51 yes there is, search on youtube for "World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen takes the Chili Challenge!"

  5. as a norwegian im wondering why they have a studio in oslo

  6. Magnus is certainly the best of this generation and a contender for greatest of all time (still don't see him beating a prime Bobby Fischer with access to today's training tools, plus the fact that Fischer's memory of games played or studied was likely even greater than Magnus possesses, etc.), but he is fortunate in one respect, and that is the fact that one of his more serious rivals of the last 8 plus years or so has demonstrated many times that he is actually a bit better than Magnus in the opening and in the middlegame, but he is frequently much weaker in the transition from the middlegame to the end game that has kept Magnus ahead of him. Magnus is also better in the endgame, but it's the just mentioned transition from the middlegame to the endgame that keeps Magnus ahead of him.

I am speaking about Fabiano Caruana, and in particular his World Championship Match with Magnus in 2018, and the just completed match-up in the GCT. Before expressing ignorant outrage at this comment, I invite all honest readers of this comment to go back and check the 12 classical games of the 2018 WC, and note how Fabi got better positions in either one or two more games than Magnus did, only to blow potentially winning positions during the transition from the middlegame to the endgame. At that time, he was no match for Magnus nor for a few others in Rapid chess, but he has definitely improved here as well in the last few years.

Move ahead 5 years, and with the exception of the first game of their recent match where Fabi blew a win in the endgame, note once again a repeat in a few games where Fabi had the edge heading into the endgame only to once again make a botch or blunder and screw up the game at that point, thereby paving the way for Magnus to win again. History repeating itself: so close and yet still so far away.

If it is not a matter of choking against Magnus, if Fabi ever learns to improve his transitions from middlegame to endgame against Magnus, he will be very close to if not slightly better than Magnus at least in terms of head-to-head faceoffs.

It would also be interesting to see how Magnus would react if Fabi does make at least sufficient improvements in the transition from middle to endgame within the next 5 years or so and cashes in more often with better positions against Magnus instead of having to settle for a draw or blowing the games completely.

    Okay, Trolls. Fire away.
