The 2024 Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge is an over-the-board Chess960 classical tournament featuring Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Alireza Firouzja, Fabiano Caruana, Gukesh, and more. The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge consists of a rapid and a main event, both in the Chess960 variant. In total, there is a $200,000 prize pool to be played for at the Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort, Germany.

I'm afraid chess960 shows just how much, in the long run, computers sterilize and suck the life out of chess. (Said by someone avidly following the action with stockfish). The thing is, the vast majority of exciting chess arises from mistakes.

Nodirbek is absolutely dominating, he's the future
This is going to be a big year for the young killer, Nodirbek. He's seemed to have reached a new level with the way he's been performing lately. I remember watching him play Magnus when he was 14 or 15 and even back then he was giving Magnus that death stare. When most people would be intimidated and fall apart playing Magnus, this 14 year old kid was looking at him like he didn't give a damn who he was. I called it back then that this kid would be future World Champion one day. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later. I love this kid.

The “pow wows” before the game just lead to almost everybody playing the same first few opening moves. Is it a team tournament or an individual one? Shouldn’t be allowed.
Ding will be making history as the only WC to retain his title for the next few years and never to win any other tournaments (or even coming in last) during his reign.
